Decatur - John V. "Jack" Cambruzzi, 79, of Decatur passed away at 10:05 p.m., Thursday September 30, 2010.

A service to honor Jack's life will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Dawson & Wikoff North Funeral Home, with Rev. Danny Cox and Rev. Ron Rector officiating.  Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Macon County Honor Guard.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home and will conclude with a Masonic Rite service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Decatur/Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation.  Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com.

Jack was born April 21, 1931 in Gary, Indiana the son of Peter and Dora (Nelson) Cambruzzi.  He was a graduate of Merrillville High School and went on to serve his country in the Air Force. He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant after 21 years of service to our country.  He went on to work as a surgical tech at Decatur Memorial Hospital. He then became the supervisor of the Ortho Medical Department.  He retired from DMH after 20 years.

Jack was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.  He was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the American Legion and VFW.  He enjoyed bowling and his Cubbies.  He was an AA Champion Marksman in skeet and trap shooting and at one time competed to be a part of the US Olympic Shooting Team.  He was an avid waterfowl hunter which he enjoyed doing with his son John.  He also loved to fish and was a great outdoorsman.  He was a member of the River Rats Club.

In 1953, Jack married his wife Glynda.  She preceded him in death and he then married Peggy in 1968.  He and Peggy spent many winters in the Gulf Shores, Alabama area where he would fish for hours with his buddies in the Gulf of Mexico.

Surviving is his wife of forty-two years: Peggy of Decatur; children: Maryanne Jenner and her husband Michael of Decatur, Debora Soebbing and her husband Mark of Champaign, John M. Cambruzzi Sr. and his wife Linda of Decatur, and Elizabeth Davis and her husband David of Phoenix, AZ.  Twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and his special companion toy poodle "Taz" also survives.

 

He was preceded in death by first wife, parents, one son, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his sister.
